RYA Day Skipper Course Options
There are a variety of RYA Day Skipper course options in both sail and power to match your prior experience, even those with no previous experience can enrol in the novice to RYA Day Skipper Fast-Track package.
Day Skipper Sailing Course
Achieve your RYA Day Skipper sail in Gibraltar on board a JEANNEAU 389S with a range of options to suit your current experience.
No previous experience required, the Fastrack to Day Skipper covers everything you need.
If you already have your RYA Competent crew or equivalent experience the Day Skipper Express course covers the theory and practical courses for Day Skipper.
If you have your Competent Crew and Theory - the Day Skipper Practical course is all you need.
Day Skipper Motor Course
We also provide RYA Day Skipper Motor Cruising Courses on the Prestige 46 Motor cruiser shown above. With just under 1000hp and all the latest electronics this is a great training platform for anyone who really wants to learn how to handle a Motor Cruiser.

No previous experience is required, this 9 day course covers the theory and practical, everything you need for RYA Day Skipper Motor.
If you already have your Day Skipper theory certificate, the 5 day Practical Course is all you need.

Day Skipper FAQ's
Q) Can I go straight to day skipper?
A) There are fastrack programs that allow you to go directly to Day Skipper, these include the RYA Competent Crew (for Day Skipper Sail) and RYA Day Skipper theory. If you have crewing experience at or beyond the level of Competent Crew then you can complete a Day Skipper Sail Express package that includes the required theory course. For Day Skipper Motor you only need to complete the theory and practical, there is no RYA Competent Crew course for Motor.
Q) How long is a Day Skipper course?
A) If you’re a complete beginner the Day Skipper Sail can be covered in with a Fast Track course in just 2 weeks. However, if you already have crewing experience to Competent crew level, then you can complete both the Day Skipper Sail Theory and Practical in 9 days. If you have your Competent crew, or Crewing experience and the theory you would only need the Day Skipper practical course and this is a 5 day course. Day SKipper Motor can be achieved in 9 days for complete beginners, this includes the theory and practical.
Q) What does RYA day Skipper course allow you to do?
A)The RYA Day Skipper certification allows you to charter yachts up to 24m in many parts of the world, however not many people are aware of this, but you can commercially endorse a day skipper too, although there are restrictions. The level of ability is limited to familiar waters by day, and this level is very much lower than yachtmaster.
Q) What is the RYA day Skipper equivalent to?
A) The day skipper course is essentially the lowest level of skippering certification, it is similar to to the ICC, or international bare boat skipper. It is usually considered to be the bare minimum requirements for chartering a yacht without a skipper.
